Operations Associate, New York

About Us

The OTC derivatives market moves trillions of dollars daily on infrastructure that hasn't fundamentally changed in decades. We're building the platform for the next evolution of financial services.

We're a small team that came from trading, quant, and engineering roles at tier one financial institutions who were previously responsible for creating some of the most innovative products in the market. We are now building a platform which can process the most complex transactions executed across financial markets. We are building this right: delightful experience, modern stack, AI-native architecture.

Our clients are the most sophisticated banks, hedge-funds, and asset managers in the world. The problems are extremely hard, the scale is massive, and we're creating infrastructure that will define how this market operates for decades to come.

About the Role

Float is scaling quickly, and this role exists to give the founders meaningful operating leverage as the company grows. It is a junior, high-ownership generalist role that sits across operations, HR, finance, corporate and investor administration. As an early-stage start-up we haven't yet split these into separate functions; over time they will, but for now this role spans all of them.

What sets this role apart is an automation- and AI-first approach. Float is an AI-native company, and we want the person running our operations to think the same way: design every new process to be automated from the outset, and continuously automate the ones we already have. The goal is a function that scales through better systems rather than more headcount — you'll partner with engineering, and use AI and no-/low-code tools yourself, to take manual, repetitive work off the whole company's plate.

Day to day you'll move between administrative, operational and more value-add strategic and technical work — some of it getting the essential, unglamorous things done reliably, some of it building the automations and projects that make the whole company run better. We're looking for someone exceptionally organized who shows initiative and is happy to roll up their sleeves to add value wherever it's needed. It's an ideal role for someone early in their career who ultimately wants to become a COO or chief of staff at a start-up rather than follow a traditional finance path. We see it as a launchpad: over two to three years you'll gain rare, broad exposure to how a company is built and be well positioned to grow into a seasoned operator.

What You’ll Do

  • Automation & AI-first operations: treat every workflow as something that can be automated. Design new processes to run automatically from day one, and partner with engineering to build internal tools and AI-driven automations that remove manual, repetitive work across finance, operations and HR. This is a core part of the role, not a side project
  • Client billing & AR: own the monthly billing cycle end-to-end — invoicing, sales tax, reconciliations, collections and new-client setup — automating the cycle wherever possible and resolving issues as they arise
  • Company finance: keep the company's finances running: pay invoices, manage cashflow and expenses, and keep bank, card and billing systems reconciled — building automated reconciliation and reporting where you can
  • People & HR: run hiring and onboarding end-to-end (recruiters, process, contracting, payroll and equity grants) and own the people admin that keeps the team supported — PEO and 401(k), visas, compliance and year-end reviews — streamlining and automating these workflows over time
  • Corporate & compliance: project-manage the corporate calendar — filings, tax (inc. R&D study), 409A and insurance — and keep the cap table accurate, with automated tracking and reminders where possible
  • Investor relations: support the founders with quarterly reporting, board prep and investor/fundraise admin such as data sharing and follow-up tracking, automating recurring reporting where you can
  • Office, events & inbound: keep the office and team running — space, suppliers, travel, meetings — plan client and team events, and field website inbound
  • Special projects & connective tissue: take on ad hoc projects for the founders and act as the glue across a small, fast-moving team, stepping in wherever the company needs an extra pair of capable hands
  • Client due diligence & security compliance: own business, technical and information-security questionnaires, working with the CTO to gather accurate responses and supporting evidence
  • Security certifications & audits: coordinate recurring compliance reviews, including SOC 2, managing timelines, evidence collection and auditor requests

Requirements

  • 1–3 years in a demanding, detail-intensive environment — investment banking, professional services, or a high-growth start-up
  • This role is based in-person at our NYC office
  • A builder's, automation-first mindset — you instinctively look for what can be automated and reach for AI, scripts and no-/low-code tools to make processes run themselves
  • Genuine enthusiasm and aptitude for AI and technology to automate work and improve how things get done — you're excited to be hands-on with new tools and to learn quickly
  • Exceptionally organized, with strong project-management skills and the ability to run many workstreams at once without letting details slip
  • High initiative and ownership — comfortable operating with ambiguity and no ready-made playbook, and happy to roll up your sleeves on anything from admin to strategic projects
  • Numerate and financially literate; comfortable with billing, invoices, cashflow and basic corporate finance
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information such as the cap table, and investor, employee and financial data
  • A strong communicator with a service mindset toward the team, clients and investors

Bonus Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience building or using tools to automate finance and operations workflows (AI, scripting, no-/low-code, or similar)
  • Investment banking, consulting or start-up operations experience
  • Exposure to HR, finance, legal, compliance, client due diligence or information-security processes
  • Interest in capital markets or fintech
  • Experience completing client or vendor due diligence questionnaires, coordinating audits or certifications, or working with frameworks such as SOC 2 is a plus, but not required

  • Drive outcomes: take initiative, own your work, and act with judgment.
